For a long time I have always been interested in snipers. In real life a sniper is accurate to and more than 700 meters. In airsoft its MAX 100 meters. And to get that range you need atleast 450 fps so whats the point? An automatic would have the same range as a sniper rifle anyways. So whats the point of buying a sniper which costs 500$ + to get 450-550fps when you can just by a 2 TM M4's or 2 TM AKs for the same price? Well my interest in snipers still remained.
One day I decided to check out some snipers. I went onto redwolf and found the following which I thought were decent:
TM VSR 10 G-Spec === 195$ >> 300~*FPS
Maruzen APS2 SV === 265$ >> 300~*FPS
Tanaka M700 === 435$ >> 400~*FPS (gas sniper)
I thought to myself, "hmm.. there must be a better way to get 400+ fps with 200$." And there was! I researched and researched until I found out about the UTG M324. Also known as the DE M50 or the Swiss Arms BE M6. Externally and internally these are all the same guns, just differently manufactured. So whats the deal with this UTG then? Well it shoots 300~* out of the box. Its 50% metal (no lie), the only plastic parts are the stock and trigger guard. AND it ONLY costs 51$ at Gunner Airsoft's online shop.
*NOTE: like I mentioned before it ALSO goes by the name of Double Eagle M50 and SA M6.*
I definatly wouldn't have ordered the gun unless there was going to be SERIOUS benefit from buying a cheap chinese gun. So I researched what possible upgrades it could have and I found one which caught my eye.
The Teflon mod.
What you do is you buy cheap 2 CHF teflon tape, open up the hop up system, wrap around some specific places with the teflon to promote a better seal and thats it! Just doing one little mod which takes 20 minutes max increases your fps by atleast 80 fps. I could not believe this at first, but slowly my beliefs were changing. I read a lot of posts about how the teflon mod does increase the velocity of the gun dramatically. So for 51$ + 2 CHF I decided to try this theory. I ordered a DE M50. Opened it up. Followed the instructions provided at this link www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/index.php?topic=13771.0.
Then decided to use the "cheap mans chrono" to see what my results would be. Heres a pic of the bottom of the cola can I shot at with a .2 bb.
You can see that the damage is immense. I thought "wow, thats gotta hurt". Redwolf says that if the bottom side was opened with 0.2g bbs the fps would be about 450 fps+ !
So you get an 450 fps sniper for 65 CHF + 2 CHF?! Thats crazy. But its true.
A pic of the enter hole of the bullet on the side of the can. The bullet penetrated both sides. The flattened area was done by a .2 bb was done AFTER the hole was made.
The exit hole:
I saw off a site that someone applied printer sticker paper to his gun. I found some at Media Markt for 18 CHF for 7 Sheets. Long story short I printed my own designed decal to my sniper. * The paper used was Microfilm Autocollants 'Special Exterieur (MAKE sure if youre gonna do this to spray the finished sheet with acrylic spray paint).
So this is my finished gun:
Size of it compared to a TM M4.. Stock is fully out and silencer is attached
The box it came in and contents:
Testing the M50
After slapping on a scope I put in my heaviest bbs (0.25g) into my gun and shot at 50 meters from the target. Well the bb flew nowhere near the target... It was about 1 meters ABOVE the target (but the accuracy perfect on the horizontal), and that was with Very LITTLE hop up. I tried at 70 meters.... the bb was still 1 meter above the target (again little hopup). I didnt try more than 70 meters to hit the target, because by then I was convinced I would need bbs heavier than 0.36 to get a nice straight path. I havent bought them yet so I cant really say what the accuracy is like. However www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/index.php?topic=13771.0 shows his accuracy. Scroll down the page, and after the instructions on the mod you will see some links to his acc. He has 2 results. One with a tightbore + mod and one without a tightbore. Judge for yourself how good the acc is.
So here is the total price
DE M50 >>> 65 CHF (thats all I payed but I suspect they will charge more for the shipping)
Teflon tape (I bought at Rochat in Nyon) >>> 2.20 CHF
Decal sticker paper from MediaMarkt Meyrin >>> 18 CHF
Acrylic spray paint from Migros Brico in Nyon >>> 10 CHF
Grand Price >>> 95.20 CHF !!!
Less than 100 CHF for a sniper rifle (*without scope*) that shoots more or at 450 fps!!!
Enjoy,
JP
* ~ means around. Give or take 30 fps.
